At Market Street Partners, we don’t believe in the phrase “you’ve got to move out to move up.” Instead, we pride ourselves on hiring incredible team members and giving them a clear path for advancement within our firm. For Lauren Morgan, this meant starting out in an entry-level position and earning promotions that have led her into her current role as Supervisor. We’re celebrating Lauren’s new role and the nearly five years she’s been on our team with a little Q&A about her contributions. Congrats, Lauren! And thanks for all you do for our team.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your path into accounting.
Lauren: Prior to working at MSP, I was in the service industry. I worked my way through school, and after getting my master’s degree, I saw an article in the newspaper about a new accounting firm — I believe it was talking about how MSP had just surpassed their 500th client mark. I applied for a staff accountant job, and at that time I had no experience in accounting other than what I’d learned in school.
Q: What brought you on then, and how has your role changed since you started?
Lauren: When I started, I was in more of a data entry role. I liked the environment of working in a newer firm and being one of the first employees. MSP does really have a family atmosphere, and I’ve always really enjoyed that. Since those early days, I think as a firm we have grown together in a lot of ways. We’re able to approach the work we do from a proactive stance, really being advocates for our clients.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about your work at MSP?
Lauren: I feel like I have built really good relationships with my clients, and I definitely think that my experience in the service industry throughout high school and college helped me do that even better. Building relationships is what makes the work meaningful at the end of the day.
Q: What are you most excited about in your new role?
Lauren: Like I said in my previous answer, I’m a relationships person. Over the years, I’ve loved taking on small clients who are just getting started, watching them grow and maybe even sell their business. It’s so rewarding. So having the chance to work with more people and support more businesses is exciting.
I’m also excited to help grow the capabilities and skills of our team. The feedback I’ve gotten over the years is that I’m always very helpful and that if I don’t know the answer, I’m the first to admit it and reach out to someone who does. I think these characteristics will be valuable to our team as they grow their skills and we work together to refine our processes and become better at what we do every day.
Q: What would you tell someone about growing their career at MSP?
Lauren: Our company is different from many other accounting firms because we have a great culture, and I think that really comes through to our clients. We’re very approachable, and our customers know that we truly care about them. We do everything we can to see our clients succeed, and that just creates a really positive working environment for our team.
I’d also want people to know that MSP is long-term. There’s a place for you if you’re just starting out in accounting or if you’re a more seasoned professional looking for a fantastic place to work. It’s a family atmosphere where we all work together and celebrate one another’s wins, and I’m so glad to be a part of that.
